Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said this morning that Samuel Deduno will be called up from Rochester and will start Friday against Detroit.

Deduno helped lead the Dominican Republic to the World Baseball Classic title this spring but suffered a strained groin and has been on a rehab assignment in Rochester. He was the winning pitcher in WBC starts against the United States and Puerto Rico, the latter coming in the final game of the tournament.

He will take Pedro Hernandez' spot in the rotation, and was chosen ahead of Kyle Gibson, who has pitched two shutouts in his last three starts for Rochester.

Deduno started three games for Rochester without getting a decision, and compiling a 2-70 ERA in 16 2/3 innings. he struck out 17 batters and walked 10. He was dropped from the Twins' 40-man roster after last season and went unclaimed by other teams over the winter.
