New Gophers coach Richard Pitino could still have his sights set on a recruit he originally targeted at Florida International.

Cameron Forte, a current junior college player at Howard College (Texas) tweeted on Monday night that Pitino had carried over his offer from FIU to Minnesota.

The 6-6 forward has been getting a lot of attention since participating in this year's NJCAA National tournament. Forte averaged 23 points and eight rebounds a game in this past regular season while shooting almost 63 percent from the field. The Arizona native has the reputation of a natural scorer with a soft touch around the rim. He set a 4A state record in Arizona with 60 points in a game in high school.

Previous to his tweet about an offer from Minnesota, Forte tweeted that his top schools are Georgia, Long Beach, Colorado State, Pittsburgh and Ole Miss. He will begin official visits this weekend, with Georgia.

Forte was originally recruited to Texas Tech, where he spent a semester, but played in only a single exhibition game.

The late signing period begins April 17.
