BIWABIK, MINN. -- The Innsbruck and Helsinki courses were both described by skiers as “very rhythmical.” It brought out a historical performance by consistent Lakeville South senior Niki Larson.
Larson became the first girl to win three individual titles Wednesday at the state Alpine ski meet at Giants Ridge. She was also the medalist in 2007 and 2008 before finishing fourth a year ago.
“This means everything to me,” Larson said. “It’s nice to end (my career) on a good note.”
Last year’s runner-up Dylan Thomas of St. Thomas Academy won the boys’ title. The junior, who finished second to Marc Massie of Blake in 2009, became the Cadets’ first individual champion since Nelson Carlson in 2003.
Both skiers led their squads to team championships as well.
We'll have the complete story, including photos, later on Startribune.com and in Thursday's paper.
