Fastenal Co., the retailer of nuts and bolts based in Winona, Minn., agreed to pay $10 million to settle a lawsuit brought by former managers who claimed they were denied pay for overtime and breaks. The plaintiffs, who sued as a group in a class action, claimed Fastenal improperly classified assistant general managers as management, making them ineligible for overtime, the company said. Fastenal said it would record the settlement in the quarter ending Sept. 30 and doesn't expect it to have a material effect. The company denied any wrongdoing. BLOOMBERG NEWS
EPA says plants in violation of Clean Air Act Allete Inc. of Duluth said its Minnesota Power unit has received a notice from the Environmental Protection Agency asserting violations of New Source Review requirements of the Clean Air Act at two plants. New Source Review requires stationary sources of air pollution to get permits before they start construction, according to the EPA's website. Allete identified the centers as Boswell Energy Center Units 1 to 4 and Laskin Energy Center, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Allete said Minnesota Power believes the projects were in full compliance.
