TV picks for Aug. 3-7: 'Partners,' Hercule Poirot, CMA Music Festival, 'Skin Wars'

Legal trouble

Kelsey Grammer and FX have stellar reputations for taking on smart projects. But they both slither way below the bar in “Partners,” a comedy about two mismatched attorneys scrounging their way from the bottom. Martin Lawrence plays the straight arrow who cringes every time Grammer suggests a legal loophole. I cringed every time these two talents blurted out predictable jokes that wouldn’t pass muster on the Disney Channel. Grammer has failed before, but usually with noble intentions. Not this time. 8 p.m. Monday, FX

Mysterious ways

David Suchet is hanging up his cane as Hercule Poirot — sort of. He has one last case on PBS, “Dead Man’s Folly,” which is part of “Masterpiece Mystery.” But three bonus episodes will be available on Acorn TV, the subscription-based streaming service, sometime in November. 8 p.m. Sunday, TPT, Ch. 2

Same ol’ song and dance

Music genres creep ever so closer together in “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock,” featuring highlights from Nashville’s four-day party and hosted by Little Big Town. The play list features the usual suspects: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley. Can we start expanding the invite list, people? 7 p.m. Tuesday, KSTP, Ch. 5

Paint by numbers

Just when you thought TV had run out of ideas for reality competitions comes “Skin Wars,” which pits body painters against one another. Rebecca Romijn, who went blue for “X-Men” and was the first model to be body painted for Sports Illustrated, hosts. The winner gets $100,000 and a really coarse bar of soap. 8 p.m. Wednesday, GSN
