NEILLSVILLE, Wis. — A Neillsville police officer has been cleared in the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man who confronted him with a knife in December.
Clark County District Attorney Lyndsey Boon Brunette says 24-year-old Officer Aaron Bembnister was justified in using deadly force.
Authorities say Bembnister responded to a domestic disturbance call early on Dec. 13 in Neillsville. While at the home he was confronted by Ricky Taylor of Neillsville. According to the prosecutor's report, Taylor ignored commands to drop the knife, and Bembnister had retreated as far as he could when the officer fired three or four shots.
Taylor died at a hospital. The report says his blood-alcohol level was 0.198 percent, more than double Wisconsin's legal limit to drive.
WAOW-TV (http://bit.ly/NASKZ4 ) reports Bembnister joined the police department in May 2012.
