Mythology Meets Archetype

Opens Friday: Pulled from dreams, nightmares and divine or devilish visions, archetypal figures have populated myths, legends and religions forever. They've been subjected to Freudian analysis and appropriated by pop culture celebrities but retain their power to fascinate and sometimes even terrorize. For this international show, five artists — Christie Brown (Britain), Michelle Erickson (Virginia), Kelly Rathbone (Oregon), Bonnie Marie Smith (New York) and Vipoo Srivilasa (Australia) — fabricate gods, serpents, mother figures, demons and more from clay. Rathbone's stoneware and porcelain figure "Metempsicosis" is shown here. (Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Fri. Free. Northern Clay Center, 2424 E. Franklin Av., Mpls. Ends April 27. 612-339-8007 or www.northernclaycenter.org)
