MADISON, Wis. — State agriculture officials are planning a conference next month intended to help dairy-goat farmers improve the quality of their goat-milk products.
The conference will be Feb. 7 and 8 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. It'll include a $5 cheese reception on Feb. 7 that's open to the public.
The state agriculture department says the goal of the conference is to give dairy-goat farmers a chance to share ideas related to raising goats. Topics will include goat selection, feed options and goat health.
Wisconsin had 46,000 milk goats in 2012, more than any other state. More than a dozen Wisconsin dairy processors use goat milk to make cheese.
