Jax Cafe is reviving the tradition of dinner and dancing with a pair of evenings (Dec. 17 and Dec. 22) featuring a four-course meal and songs-of-the-season music by jazz vocalist Charmin Michelle and crooner Vic Volare and his six-man band. Cost is $70 per person.

At the Malt Shop, now in its 40th family-friendly year, piano player Rebecca Kranges spends December Sunday evenings delving deep into the Christmas carol songbook (I heard her sweep through a magical “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella” last week) from 5 to 8 p.m.

On Sunday evenings (5 to 9 p.m.) through Dec. 22, Vincent will feature a string quartet playing Mozart, Vivaldi and Schubert. “Since the sounds of Orchestra Hall have been temporarily stilled, we’re bringing the music of your favorite classical composers across the street into our dining room,” chef/owner Vincent Francoual said. Enjoy it with Francoual’s classic cassoulet, or escargots prepared in garlic butter.
