ROCHESTER, Minn. — Four hotels near the Mayo Clinic have begun offering in-room care services, making help almost as simple to get as ordering room service.

Patients staying at the Kahler Grand Hotel, Kahler Inn and Suites, Rochester Mariott and Rochester Residence Inn can now order from an a la carte menu of services from a registered nurse or physical therapist on staff, KTTC-TV reported ( ).

Sara Romeo, the first RN hired by the Kahler Grand Hotel for the initiative, said Mayo turns away an average of 70 patients per month because they don't have anyone to care for them after their procedures. Romeo said she'll and other nurses will step in to fill that role.

"We can do wound changes, dressing changes, we can even help with medication," Romeo said.

Romeo said Rochester and Mayo's goal of becoming a Destination Medical Center community means providing for those who have to travel alone.

Prices for individual services range from $14 for blood sugar checks to $68 for crutch training. Help with daily living starts at $38 per hour or $225 for a full eight-hour day of assistance. All services are charged to the room and are paid at checkout.
