Chart: Activities directors sound off

Three metro-area activities directors shared thoughts on last week’s “Athletic Administrators Leading in the 21st Century” conference at Minnetonka High.

Dan Roff, Fridley

“Transformational coaching is what’s happening right now. There is a cultural shift going on and [Duke] is on the leading edge. We’re trying to stay on the leading edge so we bring that to our coaches and communities. We have to put our own brand on it but it’s the principals. You need to enter peoples’ lives today.”

Bucky Mieras, Orono

“We’re always trying to find tricks of the trade. We’re always trying to find things that we can use to improve our coaches and improve our students’ experiences. I’ll get these ideas back to my coaches and it’s up to them to expand on them for the kids.”

Matt Percival, Eastview

“A lot of the folks in that room have a lot of good skills and probably could be making more money doing something else. But I think activities directors and coaches are in it because they love the value of their experiences.”
