LONDON — A prosecution lawyer says a British man sought in South Africa for allegedly orchestrating the killing of his wife while on honeymoon has sufficiently recovered from his mental health problems to be extradited.
Lawyer Hugo Keith told a court Monday that Shrien Dewani has experienced "sustained improvement" from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression after the death of his wife, Anni.
Keith also spoke of Dewani's desire to return to South Africa to fight the charges against him.
Dewani is accused of arranging the murder of his 28-year-old wife, who was found shot dead in an abandoned taxi in Cape Town's Gugulethu township in November 2010. Dewani denies the charges.
South African authorities have offered reassurances that Dewani will be given medical treatment if extradited to stand trial there.
