The above clip gives an advance look at a new production of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" that will be seen next year in a Minnesota Opera production at Ordway Center in St. Paul.

Minnesota Opera is co-producing the North American premiere of this staging with LA Opera. The unique look, combining live singer/actors with bold big-screen animation somehwat reminiscent of the work of artist William Kentridge, is thanks to British theater group 1927, which created the version's original staging in 2012 at Komische Oper Berlin.

The Minnesota Opera production of "The Magic Flute" opens April 12, 2014, at the Ordway. The season kicks off Sept. 21 with Puccini's "Manon Lescaut," and continues with Richard Strauss' "Arabella" (Nov. 9-17), Verdi's "Macbeth" (Jan. 25-Feb. 2, 2014), and Dominick Argento's "The Dream of Valentino" (March 1-9, 2014).
