Lucas Skjefte went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Minnesota State Mankato baseball team to a 10-5 victory over Franklin Pierce in the second round of the NCAA Division II World Series on Monday in Cary, N.C.

The Mavericks (41-8) won their 12th game in a row and for the 25th time in 26 games to improve to 2-0 in the tournament and advance to the third round. They play Thursday against an opponent to be determined, with the winner of that game gaining a berth in the championship game.

Minnesota State scored five runs in the third inning, taking advantage of three errors by the Ravens, before pulling away with a four-run eighth after Franklin Pierce had made it 6-5.

Harvey Martin improved to 9-0 after giving up one earned run on eight hits and no walks while striking out five in 6⅔ innings.
