Letter of the Day (Jan. 17): Inauguration
- January 16, 2013 - 7:07 PM
After reading about the lineup for President Obama's inaugural concert, I was greatly disappointed. While there are some wonderfully talented artists performing, I think that including Katy Perry and Usher was a big mistake.
Usher's lyrics constantly objectify and degrade women. Should this man, who was accused of cheating on his wife and doing drugs in front of his kids, take part in a celebration for the leader of the free world? I think not.
And Katy Perry is no better. Perry, who sings about getting drunk, one-night stands and breaking the law, happens to be the headliner of the "Kids' Inaugural Concert." These artists are pressuring young girls to fit Hollywood's ideals for women, which include dressing in scantily clad outfits and partying until they pass out.
Maybe Washington should focus on creating a generation of world-changers instead of a generation of pop-culture and social-media-obsessed robots.
