After their party surrendered statehouse control last month, Minnesota Republicans leaders are gathering today to assess how the party can rebound in time for a high-stakes 2014 campaign.

The Republican State Central Committee was meeting n Blaine in what was expected to be part post-mortem, part look ahead.

The party no longer has any foothold in state government after Democrats won House and Senate majorities to go along with the governor's office they already held. The GOP is also down to three seats in the Minnesota congressional delegation.

But 2014 jockeying is quietly under way among Republicans considering campaigns against Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton or Democratic Sen. Al Franken.
