Opening: At some point this holiday season, some of us are likely to O.D. on holiday cheer. That's when we get tickets to the stage adaptation of David Sedaris' acerbic, wry observations about the holidays. The play, directed again by Wendy Knox for Frank Theatre, is drawn from material Sedaris gathered while working as "Crumpet the Elf" in a Macy's department store. Twin Cities actor Joe Leary plays Crumpet. (8 p.m. Fri.-Sat. & Thu., 2 p.m. Sun. Ends Dec. 23. Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Av. S., Mpls. $26.87. 612-724-3760 or brownpapertickets.com.)

'2 PIANOS, 4 HANDS'

Opening: Michael Pearce Donley (pictured at right, below) and Peter Vitale reprise this show, which was a sellout hit at Park Square Theatre in 2010. Pearce Donley and Vitale portray pianists who toil through lessons, grumble at piano teachers and ultimately rejoice when they commune with the instrument. It's rare to see actors who play the piano so well and this piece is a treat. (7:30 p.m. Fri.-Sat., Wed.-Thu.; 2 p.m. Sat.-Sun.; Park Square, 20 W. 7th Pl., St. Paul; $38-$58, 651-291-7005 or www.parksquaretheatre.org)
