ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Goalie Clarke Saunders made 32 saves to lead North Dakota to a 3-0 win over St. Cloud State Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
It was a rare Friday night win by UND in St. Cloud. North Dakota was 0-6-4 over the last 10 years on Fridays and 10-0 on Saturdays.
Saunders, a transfer from Alabama-Huntsville, notched his second shutout of the season for sixth-ranked UND (4-2-1, 2-0-1). He had a game-high 14 saves in the second period as North Dakota took a 2-0 lead.
"There was no scramble to his game whatsoever," North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. "He was calm and comfortable."
UND struck quickly in each of the first two periods. Brendan O'Donnell opened the scoring just 48 seconds into the game, and Carter Rowney made it 2-0 only 43 seconds into the second period.
Mark MacMillan scored short-handed late in the third period for the game's final goal.
Ryan Faragher made 23 saves for the Huskies (5-4-0, 3-2-0).
St. Cloud State outshot North Dakota, but the Huskies were 0-for-4 on the power play.
