Performance of the Dow Jones industrial average by party controlling the White House, listed with presidents in office, since 1900:

_ 1901-1912 (Republican — McKinley, T. Roosevelt, Taft): Up 48.3 percent.

_ 1913-1920 (Democratic — Wilson): Up 29.2 percent.

_ 1921-1932 (Republican — Harding, Coolidge, Hoover): Down 24.5 percent.

_ 1933-1952 (Democratic — F. Roosevelt, Truman): Up 318.4 percent.

_ 1953-1960 (Republican — Eisenhower): Up 121.2 percent.

_ 1961-1968 (Democratic — Kennedy, Johnson): Up 58.3 percent.

_ 1969-1976 (Republican — Nixon, Ford): Up 2.1 percent.

_ 1977-1980 (Democratic — Carter): Down 3 percent.

_ 1981-1992 (Republican — Reagan, G.H.W. Bush): Up 247 percent.

_ 1993-2000 (Democratic — Clinton): Up 236.7 percent.
