Somebody must have been impressed with Minnesota State Mankato's split with No. 2-rated Minnesota. The Mavericks had not one, but two players named WCHA weekly award winners.

Sophomore defenseman Zach Palmquist was named the defensive player of the week. The 5-11, 175-pound Palmquist, of South St. Paul, helped the Mavericks hold the Gophers to two even-strength goals in a 3-2 loss and a 5-3 win with the U.

He also had a goal on Friday and an assist on Saturday.

Palmquist leads the Mavericks' blue-liners with five points (1-4-5) and a plus-3 rating.

Teammate Dylan Margonari was the WCHA's rookie of the week. He scored the game-winner on Saturday on his only shot of the game. It was his first game-winner. He is a 6-1, 190-pound left wing from Greensburg, Pa.

He has two goals and 11 shots on net in six games.

UNO FORWARD RECOGNIZED

Junior forward Zahn Raubenheimer of Nebraska Omaha was an easy choice for the league's offensive player of the week. He had two goals in each game as the Mavericks swept Michigan Tech 2-1 and 5-3 in Houghton.

He is 5-10, 176. Raubenheimer, of Smoky Lake, Alberta, lead UNDo in points with eight (5-3-8).

No Gophers were nominated for any of the three awards.
