An aerospace and defense company with operations in Plymouth has won a $32 million contract to make ammunition for the U.S. Air Force.

Arlington, Va.-based ATK announced Wednesday that it will make 30 millimeter tactical and training ammunition for the Air Force's A-10 Thunderbolt, a warplane mounted with a big cannon.

"We are pleased that the Air Force has selected us to arm their A-10 crews," said Bruce DeWitt, general manager for ATK Armament Systems, in a statement. "We are confident that the Air Force will receive the highest quality and most reliable ammunition possible for use in combat and in training environments."

The program will be managed from the division's headquarters in Plymouth.

ATK has operations in 21 states and Puerto Rico, and internationally.
