ABOUT THE TWINS

The Twins went 2-2 at Yankee Stadium in mid-April, in their only other series this year against the Bombers. Carl Pavano and Jason Marquis got the two victories for Minnesota, Francisco Liriano took a loss, and Mariano Rivera (since lost to a season-ending knee injury) saved a 7-6 win for the Yankees in the series finale. So yes, it's been a long time since these two teams met.

ABOUT THE YANKEES

Andy Pettitte retired after the 2010 postseason and returned to spring training this year as a guest instructor. Pretty soon, he got the itch. By mid-May, he was back on the mound. Pettitte was 3-3 with a 3.22 ERA in nine starts before a line drive broke his left ankle on June 27. He returned last Wednesday against Toronto, tossing five scoreless innings, improving to 244-141 for his career.
