OFFENSIVE MVP

Donnell Kirkwood, Gophers

He didn't have a flashy average (3.5 yards per carry), but Kirkwood was a workhorse. He finished with 99 yards on 28 carries, including both Gophers touchdowns on short runs. His second TD came on the opening drive of the second half, and it took an extra effort on a third-and-goal from the 1. That score loomed large for the rest of the game.

DEFENSIVE MVP

Aaron Hill, Gophers

His personal foul penalty extended a Syracuse drive, but the junior linebacker more than atoned. He delivered a key interception later in the Orange drive, keeping the Gophers in front 14-3, and he finished the game with a team-leading 10 tackles. And he did it all while wearing No. 51 in honor of Gary Tinsley.
