I thought Denard Span might be finished for the season on Aug. 30. He had continued soreness in his right collarbone area and had played just four games in 18 days when he landed on the disabled list.
But Span returned from the DL on Wednesday and tripled in his first at-bat, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Tonight, he delivered a walk-off double in the 10th inning, giving the Twins a 4-3 victory. For the season, Span is batting .289 with a .350 on-base percentage and .400 slugging percentage.
Trevor Plouffe had a big game tonight, but considering how much he's struggled since coming back from his bruised thumb injury, Span's even more impressive.
“It’s not easy to sit out for a couple of weeks and come back clicking,” Manager Ron Gardenhire said. “[Span's] got a nice, short swing, and he’s been on the baseball. We call it fresh hands. He’s a little more rested than the rest of the guys."
