Did you get a voucher in May for a free flight on Spirit Air? Time to act.

On May 29 and 31, Spirit Airlines treated nearly 2,000 Twin Cities fliers to vouchers for a free flight to selected cities. Those who stood in line to receive the voucher and then signed up for Spirit's frequent flier program within a few days were told that the 20,000 points would be in their accounts July 1.

But several readers contacted me to say that on July 1, their accounts still didn't have the 20,000 points. I contacted Spirit Airlines and was told that all of the points had been added to people's accounts on July 9, according to  Misty Pinson, director of corporate communications for Spirit.

Customers who received the vouchers were originally told that they would have until 30 days after July 1 to book the trip, but Pinson said that because of the delay, those who received their vouchers on May 29 or 31 will have 30 days after July 9 to book flights. Note: the trip does not need to be taken within the next 30 days--just booked.

The voucher is for 20,000 points, which can be used to 14 cities, including Atlanta, Atlantic City, Boston, Charleston, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Latrobe, Myrtle Beach, New York, Niagara Falls, Plattsburgh and Washington DC.

The flight can be between now and February. There is at least a $5 charge for taxes and fees, but fees vary based on the destination and the booking date. There is also the fee ($28 to $33) for carry-on baggage unless it's small enough to fit under the seat (maximum size 16 x 14 by 12-inches).

Spirit now flies nonstop from MSP to Chicago O'Hare three times daily from the Humphrey Terminal. It also flies nonstop daily to Las Vegas, which is not one of the cities on the list for a free flight
