NICK BJUGSTAD, HOCKEY MAGNET
Little kids and adults alike seemed to be drawn to Gophers center Nick Bjugstad during the Skate with the Gophers event on Feb. 4 at Mariucci Arena. During his autograph time, he was the player with whom young fans wanted a picture.
• "He's got the size and the shot. That's what we needed this year," said Charlie Cheesebrough, a longtime season-ticket holder from Circle Pines.
• Butch Hanson of Coon Rapids wore a No. 27 Gophers jersey -- Nick's number. But on it was the last name of Brian Schack, a part-time defenseman who previously had that number. "Nick will be an NHL star," Hanson said. "Schack was a guy who had a love for the game, and I see the same desire in Nick."
• Dave and Lisa Seeley of Prescott, Wis., brought their children Sydney, 9, and Dryden, 7, for autographs. One wore a Gophers T-shirt with Bjugstad's name and number, the other a T-shirt with captain Taylor Matson's number. "They are the two hardest workers on the team," Dave Seeley said. Said Sydney: "[Bjugstad] is a real good player, and he is nice. He asked me if I was going to skate."
