FRESNO, Calif. - Sheriff's detectives say that an American League Championship ring belonging to Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza has been stolen from his California home.
The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/xnXGSo) that the ring — valued at $30,000 — was taken during a burglary of Garza's home in Fresno County sometime between Jan. 26 and Tuesday.
Garza was awarded the ring while playing for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. The Rays beat the Boston Red Sox in that year's AL Championship Series.
Garza was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the series, beating the Red Sox twice. His name is engraved inside the ring, which has several white diamonds and one yellow diamond.
