Restoration of St. Paul's Union Depot has moved into a new phase as Ramsey County seeks partners to manage operations, develop retail and establish a bicycle hub at the 290,000-square-foot Lowertown building.

One goal for the site is a "true multi-modal experience" with a hub for bicyclists, commuters and recreational users. Bike storage, showers and lockers will be available for commuters.

The development manager will be expected to establish and maintain a retail concept for the facility. The property manager will handle building operations, maintenance, cleaning and security.

Union Depot is near several regional trails and the Mississippi River National River and Recreation Area. Light-rail and Amtrak's Empire Builder service will connect to the depot when it opens at the end of 2012.

Information about requests for proposals is available at www.regionalrail.org. Official documents can be downloaded at www.bit.ly/uniondepotsolicitations.
