Bad health, bad weather

I spoke with Justin Morneau on Tuesday afternoon. He sounded resigned to going on the disabled list.
He had a cortisone shot on Sunday night to alleviate the pain in his left wrist, and it's not helping. While the Twins don't need any more significant injuries, this isn't the worst of all possibilities. Morneau has already missed five games, meaning he'll have to spend only 10 days on the DL. Plus, he's been playing with pain for a while, and he hasn't been productive. I think the Twins need to put him on the DL and let him get healthy so he can help in the second half.
Because of Morneau's injury, a potential logjam in the outfield may never materialize. I wrote a column for the Wednesday paper about some of the tough decisions facing Ron Gardenhire once everyone's healthy. If Morneau goes on the disabled list, one of those decisions won't be so pressing.
With everyone healthy, Gardenhire would have to choose between six players for four positions. That's Ben Revere, Delmon Young, Denard Span, Jason Kubel, Michael Cuddyer and DH Jim Thome. With Morneau hurt, even with the rest of those players healthy, Cuddyer probably play first base, meaning Gardenhire will simply rest an outfielder or use one as a DH most nights.
-The Twins and White Sox both announced they'll keep their starting pitchers in order, with Pavano and Floyd pitching on Wednesday night.
-Upcoming: I'll be on 1500espn at 2:40 p.m. tomorrow, then covering the Twins-White Sox finale on Thursday.
