Republican candidate for governor Jeff Johnson gets some help on the campaign stump Monday in the person of Gov. Chris Christie.

New Jersey's Christie is the second national political figure to mix it up in Minnesota politics in recent days. On Friday, former President Bill Clinton headlined a University of Minnesota rally for Sen. Al Franken and Gov. Mark Dayton, whom Johnson is trying to unseat.

On Tuesday afternoon, Johnson and Christie are holding a public event at a charter school in Columbia Heights. Johnson has not made education issues a heavy emphasis of his campaign, but he has argued that families should have more options when it comes to their kids' educations. Republican Senate candidate Mike McFadden was also appearing at the event with Christie.

Christie is also joining Johnson at two closed-door fundraisers. The chairman of the Republican Governors Association, Christie is viewed as a possible candidate for president in 2016.

Christie's national ambitions took a blow earlier this year when it was revealed that senior members of his administration engineered a plan to shut down lanes on a New Jersey bridge as political payback against a Democratic mayor. But Christie has an active campaigner for Republican colleagues this cycle; two weeks ago, he campaigned with Wisconsin's Gov. Scott Walker in his re-election bid.

Dayton has no campaign events on his schedule today. He does have a few activities on his official schedule: a morning meeting of his newly formed Task Force on the Protection of Children, a ribbon-cutting for a construction project near Mall of America, and an an afternoon meeting with Target's CEO, Brian Cornell.
