Former Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch reaffirmed Monday that she will not run for re-election in November.

Koch resigned her leadership post in mid-December and said she would not seek another term after being confronted about an improper relationship with a male staffer.

In an exclusive Star Tribune interview last week, Koch said she had been overwhelmed by support in her district and wouldn't entirely rule out another run.

But on Monday she slammed the door shut on a new campaign after returning to the Capitol and conducting her first major series of interviews since resigning her leadership post.

"I won't be running again," the Buffalo Republican said from her new, smaller office in the Capitol.

"Personally, I've got things I have to deal with, and it's going to be a long road," Koch said. "That's going to be my main focus moving forward."

Koch, 40, represents Senate District 19, a Republican stronghold that includes Monticello, Buffalo and Delano. She has represented the district since 2005.
