Ashwin Madia raises nearly $1 million in third quarter

Last update: October 10, 2008 - 12:07 AM

Democrat Ashwin Madia, running for Congress in Minnesota's Third District, said Thursday that he raised almost $1 million during the third quarter of the year, putting overall contributions to his campaign at more than $2.1 million in a race considered one of the most hotly contested in the country.

Madia, Republican Erik Paulsen and Independence Party candidate David Dillon are running for the seat now held by Rep. Jim Ramstad, a Republican who is retiring after nine terms in Congress.

Paulsen's campaign said it would release third-quarter figures next week but had raised $1.7 million at the end of the last reporting period in August and had gone over the $2 million mark in mid-September.

Dillon raised $157,000 through September, including more than $122,000 that he contributed. He has a little less than $100,000 cash on hand, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission.

The district includes the western Twin Cities suburbs.
