Education groups, including the influential teachers' union, are seeking additional funding for K-12 education from the Minnesota Legislature.
Education Minnesota, representing 70,000 educators, joined the Minnesota School Boards Association and the Minnesota Association of School administrators in proposing more than $1 billion in additional funding for the next budget period.
Their agenda includes $660 million increase in per-pupil spending, $350 million for free all-day kindergarten for all students and additional funding for professional development and evaluation for teachers. The cost of development and evaluation range from $160 to $300 million over the biennium, the groups said in a statement.
