State Sen. Michael J. Jungbauer, R-East Bethel, was recuperating in a St. Paul hospital after being struck by a car while jogging near the Capitol early Wednesday morning.

Jungbauer was alert and responsive when he was taken to Regions Hospital after the crash,

said Senate spokesman Michael Brodkorb. The 53-year-old senator likely sustained a minor concussion and would remain in the hospital overnight for observation. He was listed as being in fair condition.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Senator Jungbauer and his family," Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, R-Buffalo, said via Twitter.

Jungbauer, a three-term Republican Senator, is married with four children and one grandchild.

The crash comes less than a week after the death of his father.
