U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson released his first television ad this week, taking aim at fiscally conservative voters in western Minnesota by highlighting his votes against major bill's this year.

Peterson, a Blue Dog Democrat known for splitting with his party, is facing bio-tech executive Republican Lee Byberg in the fairly conservative Seventh District.

His first TV spot, "Quietly," focuses on his moderate record and votes on fiscal issues -- notably against the bailouts and stimulus bill. Peterson is also chairman of the House Agiculture Committee, another salient point of the ad.

A Peterson campaign spokester said more ads are on the way.

"While Washington argues, Collin Peterson quietly gets things done," an announcer says. "Collin's cracked down on overspending, voting against the Wall Street bailout, the auto bailout and the stimulus bill. And as chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Collin did what no other chair did: He cut spending and reduced the deficit while improving the farm economy. And he did it the Minnesota way, working with Democrats and Republicans. Listening, understanding and getting things done. That's not Washington. It's just our congressman, Collin Peterson."
