I've grown tired of readers' comments on President Obama's lack of action concerning Iran. If these people had any knowledge of Middle Eastern politics predating the last two weeks, they would realize that if the president were to openly oppose the election results and accuse the Iranian government of fraud, it would only fuel their claims that America is secretly encouraging the uprising in an effort to destabilize their government and replace it with a pro-American one. Claims like these have caused mistrust of America in the past and will continue to be effective if we play into them. Obama has no leverage to use. The reality is that the only way he might be able to pressure the Iranian regime now may be to continue pushing for reconciliation with other nations in the region. He is already attempting this with Syria, and I wish him luck. BEN HALVERSON, HOWARD LAKE, MINN.
