Thanks to Star Tribune columnist Jon Tevlin for reminding us that the U.S. Department of Defense still classifies Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan’s 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, as workplace violence rather than a terrorist attack, thus depriving the victims’ families of benefits of those killed in combat (“Death penalty closure for Fort Hood victims? Not quite,” Sept. 1).

Hasan killed 13 people, while 30 others were injured. This act hit close to home because I served two years at that military post and my son was born in the same hospital where the massacre took place. I implore the Minnesota congressional delegation to work toward having this horror reclassified as a terrorist attack.
