McGowan, Sean 54, of Henderson, Nev. Minnesota native Died on January 22, 2007, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas after a courageous 13-month battle with mantle cell lymphoma. At the time of his death, Mr. McGowan was the North Las Vegas City Attorney. He was born on August 19, 1952, in Appleton, MN, attended Appleton Public School until the 7th grade when his family moved to St. Paul where he graduated from Cretin High School in 1970. He attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and graduated in 1974 with a bachelor's degree and from its law school in 1978. Mr. McGowan spent his entire professional career in various legal positions in Nevada and Arizona including a judicial clerkship in Fallon, NV; as a deputy Nevada attorney general in Carson City and Las Vegas from 1980 to 1984, including a stint as counsel to the Nevada Gaming Control Commission under then chairman Harry Reid, now the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate. Mr. McGowan was Senior Attorney for the Del Webb Corp. in Phoenix, AZ from 1984 to 1988 and was in private practice in Las Vegas from 1988 until January of 2000 when he became the North Las Vegas City Attorney. He is survived by a son, Cullen; daughter, Courtney, and former wife, Tamara Bybee-McGowan, all of Henderson, NV; his parents, Martin, Jr. and Elizabeth (Betty) McGowan of St. Paul; 6 brothers, Martin III (Pat) of Cranford, NJ; Dan (Pam), of St. Paul; Vince (Teresa) of Eagan, MN; Kevin of Eden Prairie, MN; Brendan of St. Paul; Michael (Joy) of Eagan; two sisters, Margaret McGowan of Honolulu, Hawaii and Maureen (Paul) Sinkler, of Chanhassen, MN; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A visitation was held at the Palm Valley View Memorial Park in Henderson, on Wednesday, January 24, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, January 25 at ST. VIATOR CATHOLIC CHURCH in Henderson.
