Dillon, Uva Gilbert Passed away September 15, 2014 at the age of 90. She was born in Haysi, Virginia on September 29th, 1923, the daughter of Perry Evans Gilbert and Frances Lillian Gilbert. Working as a secretary at the Pentagon during World War II, she met and married Gerald Richard Dillon, an Army Air Force lieutenant, on July 14, 1944 in Bristol, VA. Uva Dillon and Gerry raised four children in Minneapolis, MN. Mrs. Dillon began a publishing company, Dillon Press in the mid 1960s, specializing in books for upper elementary and junior high students as well as books of local interest. The company was sold to MacMillan Publishing in 1991. Mrs. Dillon was the subject of a Minneapolis Tribune feature story in August 1976 on working professional women in Minneapolis. Mrs. Dillon was a vice-chair of the Hennepin County DFL and an active member of the League of Women Voters. She served in 1964 as co-chair of the first annual DFL Statewide Women's Workshop to give women candidates practical and tested methods to run effective campaigns. She was an avid gardener, runner, and reader. She is survived by her four children, Mark Dillon (Susan Austrian) of Naples FL; Barbara Dillon McMillan (Richard McMillan Jr) of Gibson Island, MD; Christopher Dillon (Angela) and David Dillon (Kathy) of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Gerald Dillon died in 1993. A memorial service will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Ave S., Edina MN 55435 on Fri., 9/26. Visitation, 10:30am, Service 11:30am.
