Herbert M. Adrian, age 91, of Lakeland, MN, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2002. Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dina; brother, Maurice; son, Herbert Michael, Jr. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bernnes. Also survived by his children, John (Liz), Mary Ann, Sheila (Henry) Novotny, Joe (Janie), Bunny (Pat) Alexander, Anthony ``Rock'' (Janet), Mary Terese, Timothy (Sandra) and Greg; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Adrian; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Herbert was born in Freeport, MN, July 18, 1910. He attended St. John's University, Collegeville, MN from 1925-1929 and William Mitchell College of Law from 1929-1933. He married Bernnes Marie Peterson of Winona, MN in 1934. He retired from West Publishing Company, August 1976 after 46 yrs. He served as Executive Vice President of Sales and Accounts, and Member of the Board of Directors. Invested in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in 1968. He was appointed Lieutenant of the Northern Lieutenancy of USA in 1977. He retired as Lieutenant Emeritus, awarded the Silver Palm of Jerusalem in 1983. Appointed Historian and awarded Golden Palm of Jerusalem in 1994. His wife, Bernnes Marie, invested in 1973, and promoted ``Moto Proprio'', LGCHS by Cardinal de Furstenberg, Grand Master, in 1983 and appointed Historian. Now LGCHS. Herbert was also General Chairman, Serra International, St. Paul Convention, 1972. Serra International Trustee, 1973-1974. A member of Knights of Columbus; Charter Member of the Board of Trustees, St. John's University, MN and former President of the Alumni Association. Recipient of the Father Walter Reger OSB, ``Distinguished Alumnus Award'', 1973. Former Member of the Board of Trustees, St. Benedict's College, MN and past Chairman of the President's Club. Former Chairman of the President's Council, St. Catherine's College, MN; Charter Member of the President's Council, St. Thomas University, MN. Former member of the following: Archbishop's Appeal Board and of the Assessment Committee; Advisory Board of the Little Sisters of the Poor; Cretin High School Steering Committee; Newmann Forum, University of MN; Chairman of the Priests' Retirement Residence Campaign; Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Friends of the St. Paul Seminary and Executive Committee Chairman in 1984, member of the Knights of Malta since 1977. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Wednesday at ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 16770 13th St. S. in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. Visitation 5-8 PM Tuesday at O'HALLORAN & MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 575 S. Snelling Ave, St. Paul (651) 698-0796 & one hour prior to services at church Wednesday. Family interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
