Fagerlie, Joan Marie, PhD Born in Minneapolis on November 9, 1930 to Paul and Ella Fagerlie and died December 6, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Jean Johnston. She is survived by her brother, Ken Fagerlie (Dolores); nieces, Sandra Johnston (Keith Jones) and Nancy Johnston (Adam Chowaniec); grandnieces, Elizabeth and Gillian Jones; nephew, David Fagerlie (Yaovapa Ratanasopa); nieces, Leanne Sponsel (John) and Kristen Dery (James); cousins, Mary Nordberg and Russell Tall; as well as many dear relatives and friends. After earning her BA and MA in History and MA in Library Science at the University of Minnesota, she completed her PhD degree at the University of Washington. Part of her PhD experience involved extensive study in Europe. Her PhD thesis explained how ancient coins got to Sweden and Denmark in the fifth century. She was active in the American Numismatic Society and her professional experience was as Curator of ancient coins in a museum in Manhattan. She returned to Minneapolis and spent the rest of her professional life as a Research Librarian at the University of Minnesota. After retirement Joan volunteered at the public libraries and the MN Historical Society. She lived her last year at Cherrywood Pointe of Roseville. Special thanks go to the staff of Cherrywood. A memorial service will be held in the Cherrywood Great Room at 2996 Cleveland Ave. N., Roseville, on January 27, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
