Groth, Doris A. of Edina, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in her 100th year of a wonderful life, surrounded by family. Her loving spirit and memory will be carried on in her three children, Fred (Stephanie) Groth, Rob (Lynne) Groth, and Wendy (Ray) Meifert; her five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Yeend, Nick (Leah) Groth, Matt (Emily) Groth, Alyx Groth, and Dorian Meifert; step-grandchild Laura Kelly; and great-grandchildren Hudson, Beckett, Dashiell, Jackson, Barrett, and Hunter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents Alma and Ingvard Augustinuson; brother Roger Augustinuson; brother-in-law Norman Groth; and sisters-in-law Ruby Harkman and Winifred Hodel. Doris was born on January 8, 1918 in Meeker County, Minnesota. She spent her early years on a farm, and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1936. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Arndahl Church. On October 6, 1940, Doris was united in marriage with the love of her life, Harold F. Grotha relationship she would in later years describe as a "great dance together." Harold's career at 3M took Doris and family to Spokane, Cleveland, Philadelphia and finally back again to Minnesota, where they began their lives together and where they would spend the rest of their days. Doris's passion in life was her family and creating a beautiful home for them. Her home was a place of warmth and hospitality, where one could always find a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie. Doris loved to dance, she read voraciously, and she always enjoyed a good "canuper". Most of all, she was driven by a deep, abiding Christian faith. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church since 1962, and faithfully attended services and bible study. Doris was also an active member of the Edina Women's Club, and a strong champion of women's rights and environmental causes. In her later years, Doris lived independently, drove all over town (her license had just been renewed to 2022), and still read the newspaper cover-to-cover. Doris was a humble and modest woman, but her impact on the lives she touched was enormous and far-reaching. All who knew her will miss her dearly. The visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5-7pm at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, 5000 West 50th & Highway 100, Edina MN 55436. The memorial service will be held Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11am at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 500 Blake Road South, lunch immediately following. The private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
