Wilmot, Steven Jon age 50, passed away on December 10, 2017 at his home in St. Paul following a valiantly- fought, ten-month battle with duodenal cancer. Steve was born on November 3, 1967, and grew up in Winona, MN where he graduated from Winona High School. He received his B.A. in Art History from Carleton College in Northfield, MN, and his Masters in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Following graduate school, he moved to Chicago to work for Valerio Dewalt Train Architects, and then moved back to Minnesota, where he worked for SMSQ Architects in Northfield, MN for fourteen years. He began a new chapter of his life in 2013, when he met Ann Ruhr Pifer, moved to St. Paul, MN, and shortly thereafter fulfilled a lifelong dream of starting his own firm, Wilmot Architecture Office. Steve and Ann were married on August 13, 2016 at Ann's family cabin on the North Shore of Lake Superior at Lutsen, MN. Steve's volunteer activities included work on the urban planning framework plan for Northfield, advising the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation, and serving on numerous boards and commissions including the Northfield Heritage Preservation Commission, the Northfield Rotary Board, and the Northfield Arts Guild. Steve is survived by his wife Ann Ruhr Pifer, parents Thomas and Christine Wilmot, son Samuel Wilmot, step-sons Christopher and Owen Pifer, siblings Daniel (Jennifer), Brian, and Sarah Wilmot, and nephews Joel, Noah, and Caleb Wilmot. He will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, easy laugh, intelligence, wit, and love of family and friends. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 17, 3PM at Christ Church Lutheran, 3244 34th Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55406. Memorials preferred to: Friends of Christ Church Lutheran or Superior Hiking Trail Association.
