Spannaus, Warren R. age 86 of Minneapolis, passed away November 27 after a short illness. Warren was loved and admired by many throughout Minnesota and served as an example of how to live with integrity, kindness, and compassion for others. Warren was born in St. Paul on December 5, 1930, and graduated from Washington High School and the University of Minnesota. He served in the U.S. Navy and attended the University of Minnesota Law School. After working for then Attorney General Walter Mondale and holding various positions in the DFL party, including Chairman, he was elected Minnesota Attorney General in 1970 and served for 12 years. Following his tenure as Attorney General, he practiced law at Dorsey & Whitney LLP. He was a longtime member of Lake Harriet United Methodist Church, lending his time as Chair of the Foundation Board and as a hymn ombudsman. Warren enjoyed playing golf, watching baseball, and he could usually be found reading a book or a newspaper and opining on current political issues. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marge, their three children Christy May, David (Valerie), and Laura Allard (Brandon) and seven grandchildren, Andy, Eric, and Alison May, Rocco and Marco Spannaus, Jack and Elizabeth Allard. He is also loved and remembered by numerous relatives and friends. Visitation Sunday, 12/03/17 3-7 pm at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel, 5000 W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55436.
