Daniel, James A. M.D. age 77 of Minneapolis, departed peacefully surrounded by family on November 24 after living with debilitating Lewy Body Dementia for many years. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Judy McMahon and Jim's children, Katie Fernands (Jonathan); Ginny Daniel; and Greg Daniel (Beth); and grandkids Izzy, Maddy, Eli and Maria. Also remaining are Judy's children, Molly, Peter and Matt McMahon (Allie) and Jim's siblings Stephen (Sally), Jane Turner (Jack) and Molly Raben (Monty). He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ursula, and wife Bobbi. Jim attended St. Thomas Academy ('58), the University of Notre Dame ('62) and the University of Minnesota Medical School ('68). Known for his wry sense of humor, puns and sharp mind, he had a 36-year career as a cardiologist and founding member of the Minneapolis Heart Institute and Foundation. He loved helping people and teaching students at the University of Minnesota, making lifelong friends from all over the world. Jim served in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the 101st airborne division, as a major in the medical corp. Jim volunteered with the Boy Scouts and through International Health Service in Honduras. Jim was passionate about many things, loving the outdoors, especially the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, skiing, tennis, golf and music. Jim was well travelled and enjoyed exploring new countries and capturing his visit in photos. His slide shows were legendary for their beauty (and length).
