Moore, Sheila (Johnsgard) age 83, died peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2017, surrounded by her family. Sheila Mae Johnsgard was born on May 10, 1934 in Valley City, North Dakota, and shortly thereafter the family moved to Fargo, North Dakota. Sheila was active and academically successful at Fargo Central High School, including serving as desk editor of the school newspaper, a member of the National Honor Society, and first place medal winner of the French language competition for the Upper Midwest in her Junior and Senior years. She attended Concordia College, graduating Cum Laude in 1956 as a triple major in English, Math and Psychology. After spending a year teaching in Wilmington, Delaware and a summer traveling in Europe, she enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Minnesota. She earned her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology in 1960, and that spring met her future husband, Malcolm Moore. They settled in Takoma Park, Maryland where Sheila worked as a high school guidance counselor while Mal attended law school at George Washington University and worked at the U.S. Patent Office. Their first child, Karen Louise, was born in Washington D.C. In 1964 they moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin. Sheila enjoyed life there as an active participant in the La Crosse community theater and the American Association of University Women. Son Brian was born in La Crosse in 1965. The family moved to Plymouth, Minnesota in 1967. Son Christian was born in Plymouth in 1968. Sheila was a devoted mother and highly involved in her children's activities and academics as a Great Books instructor, Sunday school teacher and Girl Scout leader. Sheila also enjoyed golf, book club, bridge, church social activities, and spending time with family at Blanche Lake. In later years, she worked as a supervisor of writing testing for Data Resources, Inc. Her children remember her as a compassionate and generous mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams. Sheila was preceded in death by parents, Sanford and Louise Johnsgard and sister, Karen (died at age 3), and is survived by husband, Malcolm L. Moore; children, Karen Herndon (Ed), Brian Moore (Lisa), and Christian Moore (Patty), and grandchildren, Katie, Eddie, Sarah, Elise, Hannah, Christian Jr., Liam, and Maggie. The family would like to thank the memory care staff at Arbor Lakes Assisted Living and the Interim HealthCare hospice team for their wonderful care and compassion shown for Sheila over the last several years. A celebration of Sheila's life will be held at St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church (17205 County Road 6, Plymouth, MN 55447) on Thursday, December 28, 2017. Open visitation starting at 10AM, service at 11AM, followed by a luncheon at the church. Interment at German Liberal Cemetery in Medina.
