Bates, Ronald E. age 82, of Minneapolis passed away on September 14, 2017 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Survived by his wife, Charlene (Charlie) Borchert, ex-wives Yvonne Bates and Glenda Key, children - Susan Harmeling (Peter) of Rockport, MA, Linda Jahnke (Stephan Gipp) of St. Louis Park and Key Bates (Tammy) of Minneapolis, grandchildren - Sarah, Luke and Carolyn Harmeling, Brian and Laura Jahnke and Red Hunter Bates and brother, Edwin. Preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Avis (Laatsch) and twin brother, Robert. Born on August 30, 1935 Ron grew up on a farm near West Bend, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1959. After graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Army, stationed in GA and CA. A marketing position at Touche Ross & Co brought him to Minnesota in 1965. Ron was a successful entrepreneur who founded several companies including Integro with his business partner, Ralph Colby, and developed and restored properties in Minneapolis and Lead, SD. Ron traveled extensively throughout the world cultivating a love of fine wines, food and classical music. A memorial service will be held at Union Congregational Church, 3700 Alabama Ave So, St Louis Park on October 21, 2017. Visitation at 1:00 pm, Service at 2:00.
