Gauthier, James W. age 81. Jim loved mathematics, teaching himself basic mathematics; completing two years of college calculus/solid geometry; he was a surveyor for MN Highway Dept.; worked in the office after testing revealed his exceptional math ability; he resolved a complex contractor dispute involving the cost of a highway support wall by developing a simple formula still used today; Jim worked 30 years as a journeyman pressman for St. Paul Pioneer Press, retiring in 2000. In 2012, Jim was diagnosed with cancer; he passed away peacefully at home at 4:30 a.m., Sept. 14, 2017, age 81; survived by wife, Frances Felix; daughters, Wendy Ramirez and Diane Reddish; son, Guy Felix; stepson, Paul Felix; sisters, Lenore Miller and Marion Lambrecht, four grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren. Memorial/reception 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017, Cremation Soc. of MN, 4343 Nicollet Ave So., Mpls. MN 55409.
