Marchand, Louis V., Jr. 90, Bemidji, died Friday, Sept. 8. Born in St. Cloud, MN in 1926. In 1941 the family moved to Bemidji where Louis graduated from high school and Bemidji State College. He completed an MA in Theatre at the University of Denver and did further graduate study there. He served in the Air Force in Germany as a Russian language interpreter. In 1955 he took a one year appointment at Bemidji State College and stayed for 37 years teaching speech and theatre, directing plays and musicals. He also directed and acted at the Paul Bunyan Playhouse summer theatre. In 1969 he married Mary Lou Stark. Lou will be remembered for his irrepressible sense of humor, love of words and his smile. He had a passion for reading and writing history, maps, lighthouses, writing letters to family and friends and exploring the world he lived in. He loved a glass of wine, bread pudding, anything chocolate, and a game of cards. He loved his family most of all. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters Catherine (Lewis Crenshaw) Marchand of Bemidji and Georgianna (Robert) Fowley of Plymouth, MN; son Louis of Eden Prairie, MN; grandsons William and Robert Fowley; brothers Peter (Carol) and David (Mara) and sisters-inlaw Martha (McGuire) Marchand, Barbara Stark Swanson, and JoAnn Stark; nieces and nephews who brought him great joy as well as friends old and new. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Adelaide (Hohmann) Marchand, his sister Georgiana (Vance) Jackovich, and his brother William (Martha). A celebration of his life has been held. Memorials in his memory can be made to the Beltrami County Historical Society in Bemidji, MN.
