Zila, David James Age 80, of McGregor, MN died peacefully at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, MN surrounded by family and friends after a sudden battle with pneumonia on July 20, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents Burt and Rose Zila, wife Betty Zila, brothers Donald Zila (Marlene) and Leonard Zila, step-son Larry Karjalahti. Survived by sisters Grace Grussing (Donald), Ruth Overlie (Bruce), sons Michael Zila (Sandy), Douglas Zila (Christine), Charles Zila, Peter Zila (Shannon), daughter Diane Thelen (Thomas), step sons Craig Karjalahti (Nancy), Stanley Karjalahti, step daughter Karen Laquie (Paul). Loving grandfather of many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Dave was born in Hopkins, MN where he lived until retiring and moving to his cabin in McGregor, MN with Betty. Dave graduated from Hopkins Eisenhower HS in 1955. He loved his careers as a heavy equipment operator (Proud member of I.U.O.E. Local 49) and Hopkins volunteer fire fighter (Captain), retiring from both after 28 years. After retiring he worked part-time for CK Service with his step son Craig. He loved spending time with his family, hunting and fishing. A short service will be held at Washburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel in Hopkins on Saturday, 7/29/17, 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM.
